Mountain Biking

As almost everyone who knows me, knows I am a big cyclist. Well I started off mountain biking in the early 90's and then picked up riding on the road shortly thereafter. My true love has always been mountain biking and I have not done this for over 9 years. Just recently I went with my old club Eastern Virginia Mountainbike Association to Douthat State Park in Clifton Forge VA to do just this. I was really suprised at how little I have forgotten about off road riding, I guess it is true about once you learn how to ride a bike. Well I had a blast riding up the mountain and then down along narrow walking paths and around switchback turns all while negotiating loose gravel (there has been little rain) and small rocks. If you try and think of any of your troubles or anything for that fact, you will be tasting dirt and rock because you need total concentration. If you are a mountain biker then you owe it too yourself to visit Douthat and experience all their wonderful trails.
Locally I visited Fairystone State Park right here in Patrick County. This park offers just over 7 miles of off road riding. The trails are double track and they allow horses on them as well, but they are quite difficult in places as well as has some really exciting downhills. The local clubs in the area will hopefully be working on these to get them into better shape which will make this a great quick stop for some real fun.
